Alexander Ryan Johnson, 28, from the City of Wayne was video-arraigned Aug. 5 by 34th District Court Chief Judge Brian A. Oakley while in custody of Van Buren Township police, after being arrested by township detectives over the weekend.
He was taken into custody for the shooting that occurred near the 7200 block of Sheldon Road, north of Ecorse, at about 11:26 p.m. on July 20.
Van Buren Township Police Chief Jason Wright said the suspect had fired multiple shots into the bedroom window striking a male victim and missing a female victim and her children. The male victim was shot several times and was conveyed to an area hospital and survived his injuries.
Chief Wright said Alexander Johnson was named as a supect early on during the investigation and has been charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with two felony counts of assault with intent to murder, two felony counts of using computers to commit a crime, five felony counts of weapons-felony firearm, one felony count of weapons-firearms-discharge in or at a building, one misdemeanor count of stalking, one misdemeanor count of using a computer to commit a crime, one misdemeanor count of using a motor vehicle tracking device, and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
Chief Wright said during the investigation, department detectives uncovered additional crimes to file against Johnson who was in possession of child pornography.
He also was charged with three felony counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, three felony counts of using computers to commit a crime (maximum imprisonment of 10 years or more, but less than 20 years), two felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material, three felony counts of using computers to commit a crime (maximum imprisonment of four years of more, but less than 10 years).
A not-guilty plea was entered for Johnson and Judge Oakley ordered a $250,000/10% bond on each case (shooting and sex crimes) with the stipulation that if released, he will be on a GPS tether and have no contact with the victims. His probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Aug. 14, at 34th District Court before Judge Lisa Martin.
“The dispatchers, patrol officers, and detectives who worked this incident did an excellent job and worked as a team,” Chief Wright said. “Our detectives were patient and meticulous working the investigation, and were able to take a dangerous person off the street.
“I am thankful that no one else was injured and that the victim survived his injuries. Things could have been much worse.”
