On Aug. 18, Flem Stiltner IV, 27, was sentenced by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Wanda Evans to 29 to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the Aug. 9, 2020 death of his father, 48-year-old Flem Stiltner III.
Stiltner IV was initially charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing his father to death in Wayne and then placing him into the back of a pickup truck and leaving it at Quirk and Belleville roads in Van Buren Township. He also had been charged with home invasion-first degree and tampering with evidence and those three charges were dismissed in exchanged for the guilty plea.
He also was fined $1,898. Stiltner IV received credit for 739 days of time served.
On Aug. 9, 2020 Michigan State Police were notified by the Van Buren Township Police Department of a dead body in the bed of a pickup truck that was found stuck in the grass around Belleville Lake in its township. An investigation by the Wayne Police Department and MSP led to the identification and arrest.
