George, Irene Roberts celebrate 74 years

George and Irene Roberts celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary at Cedar Woods in Van Buren Township with a big party and special cake on May 17. They were longtime residents of Belleville and then moved to Shepherd, MI. Now they are back. He was from Brookhaven, Mississippi, and she was from Iowa City, Iowa. He joined the Navy and was in the service when they married May 13, 1944 in Iowa City at the Blue Jackets Club. They moved to Belleville in the 1950s. The couple has four children: Gary, Linda, Jerry, and Douglas. A special cake was provided by Cedar Woods.
