Ceremonial swear-in part of Martin Luther King event in Romulus

34th District Court Magistrate Lisa Martin did a ceremonial swearing in of new State Senator Erika Geiss at the Romulus Martin Luther King Day celebration on Jan. 21. Martin is the first African-American person to serve on the bench of the 34th District Court, which serves Romulus, Belleville, Sumpter, Van Buren and Huron. Sen. Geiss is the first woman and first Latin and person of African descent to represent Senate District 6, which includes Romulus, Belleville, Flat Rock, Huron Township, Rockwood, Sumpter Township, Taylor, Van Buren Township, Westland, and most of Brownstown Township.
