Large cranes and other equipment have been delivered to the Waltz Road Bridge in New Boston, indicating bridge replacement work is set to begin. Pedestrian traffic was allowed on the walkway along the bridge during last week end’s Apple Fest.
The 94-year-old bridge has been closed for more than a year. Wayne County has contracted with Toebe Construction of Wixom to replace the bridge. Cost was estimated at $5.4 million. The new bridge is expected to last 60 years and construction is expected to take six months.
