Work has begun in reconstructing the Romulus Veteran’s Memorial next to the 34th District Court. The memorial was taken down and stored more than seven years ago before construction began on the new courthouse. Recently, workers began reinstalling the 502 bricks with veterans’ names on them, plus the new bricks with names that have been sold recently.
Romulus treasurer Stacy Paige said the original bricks are being replaced on the wall like they had been and then the sitting wall will be put in place. A large granite piece will be put on top of the wall with heavy machinery and then cement poured for a walkway and a flagpole installed.
Once everything is in place, a special event will be scheduled later this year to celebrate the memorial, treasurer Paige said.
