The new equipment is up and running and Van Buren Township is ready to do its first test on the emergency siren warning system.
The test will be for one minute on Saturday, June 6.
VBT Public Safety Director Greg Laurain said if the siren runs a minute and a half for the test that’s OK.
But, if the siren blast is three minutes or longer, it will be a real warning and people should tune into radio or television broadcasts to find out what’s going on.
Director Laurain said the siren could alert people to a tornado, hazmat situation, or some other emergency.
“Now, if we have a tornado, we’re ready,” Laurain said.
