At its 8-minute meeting on June 2, the Van Buren Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved the second and final reading for an ordinance to permit outdoor dining and table service in the C-1 (General Business) zoning district.
The ordinance was initiated because the two restaurants that have signed leases to be in the new building on the former Big Boy site – Starbucks and Qdoba Mexican Restaurant — want to have outdoor dining.
Patrick Sloan, a consultant from McKenna Associates, said outdoor dining will also be permitted in the C-2 district, since C-2 allows everything allowed in C-1.
Also at the June 2 meeting, the board:
• Approved the second and final reading to amend an ordinance to rezone a parcel at 51257 West Huron River Drive, adjoining Rite Aid, from C (Local Business) to R-1A (Single Family Residential) so new owner Dave Woodard can live in the house there and improve it;
• Approved the 2015 Concert Series line up and authorized the supervisor and clerk to execute the contracts with the artists. The total cost for the concerts is $5,450;
• Approved the $10,000 contract with Zambelli Fireworks Company for the 2015 Fireworks show at Beck Ball Field on June 27 (rain date June 28) and authorized the supervisor and clerk to execute the agreement; and
• Heard Trustee Jeff Jahr praise the work of Account Clerk Jennifer Price who made sure everyone on Harmony Lane knew that the trash pickup had been changed from Thursday to Tuesday.
