On Sunday, June 19, Van Buren Township Firefighter John Henderson received the Michigan State Firemen’s Association 2016 Hero Award for his actions during the rescue of 2-year-old Amariyana Wells from a house fire on Dec. 13, 2015.
Firefighter Henderson was nominated by VBT Deputy Director of Public Safety – Fire Services Dan Besson and he was selected from others nominated from across the state. The MSFA’s award committee presented Henderson, center, with the award during its 141st-annual conference held in Mt. Pleasant with Director of Public Safety Greg Laurain at his side and Henderson’s mother, Marcella, in attendance.
