Van Buren Township announces the completion of Section D of the Iron Belle Trail and invites the community to a special ribbon-cutting celebration at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the back loop of Van Buren Park, 50901 S. I-94 Service Dr.
This new segment extends the township’s portion of Michigan’s statewide trail system, offering residents and visitors scenic opportunities to walk, bike, and connect with nature, according to a news release sent out on Monday..
“We’re proud to bring another piece of the Iron Belle Trail to life here in Van Buren Township,” said director of community services Elizabeth Renaud. “Every section we complete strengthens our community and brings us closer to closing the gap. We are especially grateful to the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation and Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative for funding the majority of this project and for their commitment to recreation and wellness.”
The Oct. 6 celebration will feature complimentary coffee from Bearclaw Coffee Company and fresh cookies — free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy this community milestone together.
When fully complete, the Iron Belle Trail will stretch from Belle Isle in Detroit to Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula, spanning 48 counties and connecting hundreds of communities. Van Buren Township’s section links the Lower Huron Metropark Trail to the B2B Trail near Grove Road, making it an essential part of this statewide path.
