Two new Reserve Police Officers were introduced to the Van Buren Township Board of Trustees at its regular meeting on Nov. 15.
From left are VBT Police Sgt. Bart Devos and Reserve Officers Earl Johnson, Jr. and Carl Powell. The two, who graduated Nov. 9 from Schoolcraft Police Academy, are VBT’s only Reserves at the moment, but the board was told six more candidates are in the process of becoming Reserves. Sgt. Devos, the Reserve Coordinator, said he started his police career in the Reserve Program, which he said is a great asset to the department. Reserves officers are unpaid volunteers, but the township provides uniforms and training.
