Dan Swallow, who previously worked as director of planning and economic development for Van Buren Township, was selected as city manager of Saline on a 4-3 voice vote of the city council on June 23.
Swallow has served as city manager of Tecumseh for the last ten years and had worked for the city of Monroe before that. He left Van Buren Township to work for Monroe in January 2011.
Swallow was among three finalists interviewed for the Saline position at the June 23 meeting. Also interviewed were ex-Belleville city manager Jason Smith and Saline’s acting city manager Elle Cole.
Swallow and Smith had been interviewed with two other candidates at a May 21 meeting and the field was cut down to two, with the acting city manager being added as a finalist for the June 23 vote.
Smith signed a severance agreement for his Belleville city manager position on June 19.
Swallow and his wife bought a house in Saline and moved there last August.
Swallow was one of the final two candidates for Monroe city manager on April 20, 2023 when Belleville City Manager/Police Chief David Robinson was selected for the position.
Robinson was hired as Belleville police chief on Feb. 17, 2020 and added the position of city manager to his duties on May 3, 2021.
