On Aug. 12, 25-year-old Flem Stiltner IV was charged with the first-degree murder of his 48-year-old father Flem Stiltner III, in Wayne, and remanded to the Wayne County Jail without bond.
His arraignment was at 29th District Court in Wayne. He also was charged with first-degree home invasion and tampering with evidence.
According to Wayne Police at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, a passerby alerted Van Buren Township police that a truck was stuck in the grass around Belleville Lake in the area of Belleville and Quirk roads.
Police allege the defendant killed his father before placing him in the bed of his father’s pickup truck and driving the body to Van Buren Township.
Stiltner, IV, was taken into custody Monday, Aug. 10. He is scheduled to return to 29th District Court on Aug. 25 for his probable cause conference and on Sept. 1 for his preliminary exam.
VBT Police turned the investigation over to the Michigan State Police when it was discovered that the homicide took place in the victim’s home in the 4400 block of John Hix Road, south of Michigan Avenue, in Wayne, and the body was moved.
The MSP and Wayne police are investigating the homicide.
MSP showed channel 7 News viewers the ruts in the grass that indicate someone was trying put the truck in the lake but got stuck.
