A jury trial on charges of second-degree murder and felony firearm has been scheduled for March 2 for David Paul McPherson of Sumpter Township for the death of his live-in girlfriend. The jury trial will be held before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ramsey.
McPherson, 39, of Sumpter Township was video arraigned in custody on July 31 by 34th District Court Judge Lisa Martin on charges of second-degree murder and weapons on June 29 on Montana Street in Sumpter Township. He told police his 24-year-old girlfriend Haleigh Price committed suicide. She had recently graduated from Eastern Michigan University. But Sumpter Township police investigated the death further and found it to be a homicide.
Bond is $1,000,000 cash or surety and if he does bond-out he is to be on a GPS tether and not to contact the protected party. All firearms are to be forfeited to the police department and he is not to purchase or possess firearms.
A pre-exam hearing was held Aug. 13 and his exam held Oct. 2 when he was bound over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information. A disposition conference was held Oct. 9, along with a calendar conference. The final conference is Dec. 5, before the March 2 jury trial.
He remains in custody. If convicted, McPherson faces up to life in prison for the murder charge and up to two years for the felony firearm charge.
