Six new outdoor sculptures have been installed around the Downtown Development District in the City of Belleville. They replace the initial six that have been in place for a year around town.
“Point Well Taken” by Ric Leichliter of Sugar Grove, Ohio, is at the gateway sign to the City of Belleville. Cost is $12,000.
“Morning Glory Bench II” by Jim Gallucci of Greensboro, N.C., is at Horizon Park. Cost is $12,000 (You can whisper in one morning glory and hear the sounds come out the other flower.)
“Hope Eternal” by Marie Davis of Brighton, MI, is in front of Chase Bank. Cost is $20,000
“Harp1” (chimes) by Mike Sohikian of Genoa, Ohio, is at the Fourth Street Square. Cost is $5,900. (The chimes aren’t moved by the wind, but you can play it with your hands.)
“Harmony” by Douglas Gruizenga of Interlochen, MI, is at Five Points. Cost is $9,000. (Artist was inspired by WWII airplane engines that work in harmony.)
“Steel Horse” by Trevor L. Korns of Chesterfield, MI, is at the Davenport Center. Cost $8,000
The cost listed is what you can pay the artist to get the sculpture for your yard after it is displayed for a year in Belleville.
The sculptures are leased for display by the Belleville DDA from the Midwest Sculpture Initiative.
The total cost from MSI is $9,354, said DDA Coordinator Carol Thompson. Sponsors have donated $4,600, leaving $4,754 for the DDA to pay.
Thompson said the DDA is still accepting donations, so if someone would like to be a sponsor, there is still time.
