The second-annual Battle for Belleville World War II Reenactment will take place this Friday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m., to promote this week end’s Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport.
World War II-era tanks and vintage cars will parade from the Yankee Air Museum to the Belleville Area Museum beginning around 5:30 p.m. Once they are positioned and ready, the Battle for Belleville will begin.
Museum Director Katie Dallas said the story is that the German Nazi forces have overtaken the museum and are using it as their headquarters.
“The United States troops are here to liberate the museum and our city!” Dallos said. After the reenactment vehicles and the reenactors will be on hand for photos.
The following day, on Saturday, Aug. 20, the liberated museum will host a trip to Pewabic Pottery in Detroit. The tour will begin promptly at noon. Carpooling from the museum is available. Cost is $5 for Belleville Area Historical Society members and $7 for non-members.
Dallos said the group will try to lunch at Green Dot Stables immediately following the tour. Contact Dallos at the museum, (734) 697-1944 or [email protected]. Reservations must be made before Friday, Aug. 19, at noon.
The museum’s last event of the summer will be a Booville Kickoff Painting Party on Saturday, Sept 24, from noon to 2 p.m. in the museum fire hall. Dallos said $40 per person includes snacks and non-alcoholic beverages as well as “your masterpiece.” See the event page on Facebook (TheBAM: Belleville Area Museum) for more information. Reservations Required.
The museum summer hours are 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and noon-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday through Friday. Group tours by appointment.
The museum is located on Main Street between Roys and Fourth streets.
