The Belleville Area Council for the Arts will present its 16th-annual Community Art Show Oct. 10-12 at the Belleville Yacht Club, 831 E. Huron River Dr., Van Buren Township.
The opening reception for the art show will be 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10. This is the time to meet the artists. Prize winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.
Cash prizes will be awarded in 6 categories: 2-D, 3-D/Fiber Art, Autism Awareness Showcase, Photography, Children Ages 6-12, and Teens Ages 13-17.
Public viewing continues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12. The show is open to the public and free of charge.
Many of the artists will have their artwork for sale. There will also be a silent auction with donated pieces of art. Bidding will take place all weekend, ending on Sunday.
A People’s Choice Award will be announced at the end of the show. All attendees will have a chance to choose the piece of art that they like the most.
Prize winners will be chosen by these judges:
• Tim Marsh has sold and exhibited art for more than 40 years. During that time, he has received nine People’s Choice Awards, numerous exhibit placement awards and has been featured in Sunshine Artist Magazine, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Ann Arbor News and other small news publications.
His studio was located in Van Buren Township for most of his professional career, moving to Ludington in 2022. Marsh is a self-taught artist with a passion for all living things and specializes in the art of nature.
• Kathi Talley has 30+ years of expertise within the visual arts and exhibition areas. For 25 years, she has worked as the visual arts coordinator for the Gifts of Arts program at Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan. Gifts of Arts brings the world of art and music to patients, visitors, and staff.
Talley has a bachelor of fine arts from the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, and a master of business administration in Healthcare Administration from Oakland University. She also serves as a volunteer board member at the Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti, as well as many other boards and committees at Michigan Medicine.
• Maggie Spencer is the operations manager at Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti. With more than a decade of gallery experience and a strong background in arts administration, she is dedicated to supporting local artists and engaging audiences.
