Each year on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., around the world, parents that have experienced the death of a child gather around the Angel of Hope statue in their area to remember their child.
The death of a child – no matter how long their life – is different than any other death. As parents, we are not supposed to outlive our children.
In 2002, with the support and generosity of the Belleville and Van Buren communities, an Angel of Hope statue was purchased and placed at Hillside Cemetery. Each year since, the Angel of Hope Ceremony has taken place on Dec. 6.
If you have experienced the death of any of your children, please join in this moving ceremony. Participants will gather around the statue, hear the names of the children spoken, and receive a flower to keep or place at the foot of the statue.
If participants would like to have a child’s name included in the program and spoken aloud, contact Patricia Monroe by Dec. 1 at the Brown Family Center at (734) 697-5090.
The Brown Family Center provides no-cost grief counseling to anyone in the community that is struggling following the death of a loved one.
