Those who like to watch the annual Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport while parked along Ecorse Road in Van Buren Township will have to find another place to watch the July 16 and 17 show this year.
Van Buren Township Police Lt. Charles Bazzy said police will be shutting Ecorse Road down for the air show and no parking will be allowed there due to safety concerns.
He said they tried to allow parking, but last year he wouldn’t have been able to get a patrol car or fire truck down Ecorse because of the way people parked. The decision has been made to just shut down the road completely.
He said people park and get out and run on an active roadway with traffic and it has been very dangerous, especially in the Ecorse/Beck/GM area.
Lt. Bazzy said a map of the road closings is being prepared and will be released soon.

Was there last year. Their Was no issue of getting police or fire through there. The issue is the attendance at the show. MONEY GRAB
Exactly right! Money grab. The powers that be (Willow Run and “Thunder over Michigan” venue folks) realized they’re losing out on tons of money. $200-300 dollars to watch an airshow!?? What a rip off. They no longer wanted the “free loading” public to watch, for nothing. There were no concerns last year over safety or police/EMS vehicles couldn’t get through. They had to have a cover story. This article went on to say they also had specific concerns over people going out onto the runway. How would they have gotten there? Jump the fence??
The concern was those going out onto the roadway.
