Sumpter Senior Center Director Mary Ann Watson honored volunteers at the center during the April 25 meeting of the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees. Then she honored them again at the Senior Center the next day with ice cream and cake.
“It takes a team to run the Senior Center,” Watson told the township board. “Many duties are done by volunteers, from watering plants, decorating at Christmas, helping others, and we appreciate all.
“At this time I am honored to announce our volunteers for outstanding dedication to Sumpter Township Senior Citizens,” she said.
For Meals on Wheels delivery, preparation and cleanup, thereby servicing over 50 clients daily: Christine Wenderski, 12 years; Jackie McKenzie, five years; Paulette Thompson, seven years; and Joe Wilson and Joe Watkins.
Serving the congregate meal at lunch time, assisting with the preparation of the Focus Hope TEFAP program, thereby servicing over 60 clients monthly: Karen Mickens, Lettie Sanders, Dee Patterson, Beverly Powell, and Leona Mixon, who’s been volunteering for 30 years.
Training and planning and implementing the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, thereby servicing over 15 clients weekly: Virginia Belinski, three years.
Assisting with Homebound Focus Hope delivery and weekly shopping trip, thereby servicing over 20 seniors weekly: Margaret Rochon, seven years.
Monthly blood pressure screening: Sharon Romanos, R.N., three years.
Bingo caller twice monthly servicing 12 clients, with set up: Bonnie Rish, five years.
She also honored Jewel Butler, who has been leader of the Bible Study Class for 24 years and helps in other ways.
“Your loyalty to Sumpter Township Senior Program is a great asset that does not go unnoticed,” Watson said. “Thank you for all your dedication and time.”
