On April 27, Myra MacPherson, author, journalist, and Belleville High School Distinguished Graduate, sent her regrets. She will be unable to attend the Distinguished Graduate ceremony on April 28.
A session with MacPherson was also set for 1 p.m., Saturday, April 29, at the Belleville Area District Library, but her appearance there is unsure. They are trying to get her there via Skype.
MacPherson, BHS class of 1952, also intended to spend time at BHS on Friday speaking with classes.
MacPherson worked at the Washington Post for more than 20 years and wrote profiles of the criminals involved in Watergate. She is the author of “Long Time Passing: Vietnam and the Haunted Generation” and, most recently, “The Scarlet Sisters; Sex, Suffrage, and Scandal in the Gilded Age.”
MacPherson was in Florida to visit a friend in the hospital and ended up in the hospital herself for tests having to do with a ongoing condition she had. Her doctor reportedly told her not to travel to Michigan this week end. She also had to cancel her planned Wednesday appearance at Harvard University in Boston.
