On Saturday, April 1, Girl Scout Troop 76032 from Trinity Episcopal Church in Van Buren Township participated in a clean-up day at Historic Fort Wayne during the Civil War Trust Park Day.
Civil War Trust Park Day is a yearly event with thousands of participants across 38 states. In Michigan two sites participated: Historic Fort Wayne and the River Raisin National Battlefield.
The troop is made up of Troop Leader Tammy Mayrend, Rachel Gowell, Sarah Helm, Natallia Bent, Gabriella Mayrend, and Patricia Reyes.
The day was spent cleaning fallen branches and debris from the recent storms, picking up trash, and preparing the fort for the many upcoming summer events.
The troop cooperated with the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition to restore part of the site and was the first Girl Scout Troop that has ever participated in clean-up day.
Troop 76032 is a small, multi-age scout troop for girls in grades five and up. The troop focuses on traditional and outdoor skills such as camping and hiking, as well as service to the community.
During the week end and on the day of service, the troop worked with Boy Scout Troop 446 of Saline.
Historic Fort Wayne is located at 6325 W Jefferson Ave, Detroit.
