On Sept. 24, Mildred Baker, along with 110 friends and relatives, celebrated her 90th birthday in the fellowship hall of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Belleville.
The guests were greeted by a lavender theme of balloons, decorations, purple Stock (matthida incana) flowers and pictures of Mildred from childhood to adulthood.
Deb’s catering provided a buffet lunch. Music from Mildred’s era provided background music.
Many family members traveled from several locations to complete her special weekend: Her son and his wife from Frankenmuth, her daughter and husband from Tennessee, a grandson and his wife from Owosso, three granddaughters and their husbands along with eight great-grandchildren from California, a daughter-in-law along with her daughter and her son from New Jersey, a grandson from Kentucky, a granddaughter and her family of four from Tennessee, her sister from Arkansas, her sister from Westland, and several nieces.
The festivities included a blessing from her son Jim, singing of “Happy Birthday” led by her great-grandchildren, smiles, laughs, recalling of years ago, and visiting between friends and family – and lots of hugs.
The family extends its thanks to Deb’s Catering, Garden Fantasy on Main, “helpers” from St. Paul’s, and everyone who attended to make this event successful.
The weekend stretched from Thursday through Sunday and constituted a big reunion for this extended family.
