To the residents of Van Buren Township:
With the support of my family and friends, I am pleased to formally announce that I have made the decision to seek another term of office as Van Buren Township Treasurer. This is a position that I have been proud to serve in. I have deep roots in this community and through my experience I have gained an understanding of the complexities of township government.
I see a bright future for Van Buren Township and would like to continue to be an advocate for the “people” and “businesses” of this community. Like other communities, there are issues that will come before us and I stand ready to face those issues head on.
As Treasurer, I am a vital and active communications link between people and the Township. I consistently stay in touch with citizens and business owners to ensure I meet the needs and desires of our community. Balancing fiscal responsibility with sound judgment is a priority. I am a Certified Municipal Finance Administrator with many years of financial experience and exemplary financial audits.
Generations of my family have lived, worked and raised their family here, the place that I call home. I ask for your continued support in the August Primary Election. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve you.
Sharry Budd
Van Buren Township
Sharry used “I’ , “I”, “I” many times throughout her letter then claims to be humble. This does not sound like a person that could ever practice the trait of humility.
This is great! We don’t have nearly enough corruption or “politicking” going on in City Counsel.
Sharry may be one of the most corrupt people in an office full of corruption. The whole board has to go, and Sharry has to be the 1st one. Otherwise, she will just spill her corruption onto anybody else who gets elected.
This letter is atrocious. Why are people and businesses in quotations? Are we fictitious characters that have no meaning in your journey to be re-elected?
A vital and active communications link? Really – you sat quiet in your little chair when Leon was lambasted regarding the tremendous Public Safety issues over the past few years. You have had so many lawsuits brought onto the township by your incompetent directors. You have been told to your face about the frivolous spending habits of your township employees, but you sit there quiet and ask for the good people of this township to vote for you? You definitely seem humble. That was a joke, by the way.
Listen, the only reason you have deep roots in the township is because you are 80 years old. Nothing against your age, but times have changed and you are still complacent. You must go and make way for a vision. This old vision has failed, proof is in the puddin. Last opinion is that you obviously do not understand the complexities of this community, because it will be bankrupt in 2 or 3 years due to your gross negligence with the Visteon deal. You board members who blindly drank the kool-aid are going to cost the residents who stay here a lot of hard earned tax dollars and a lot of cuts everywhere else. Public safety will be part-time and you probably will not have a Senior Center or Recreation department anymore.
I too can’t understand why the words businesses and people are in quotes. It’s a very poorly written letter. Sitting quietly in the chair is not good enough anymore. It’s too late for the current treasurer to “face the issues head on” because she created those issues. Her behavior during the recall attempt speaks volumes about her character.
Budd is nuts. She thinks she owns this town. Sorry But your name is washed up.
I agree!
We need to seriously consider term limits, especially for the Treasurer positiion. At the end of this term Mrs. Budd will mark her 20th year sitting on her throne making decisions and negotiating contracts that benefit “her people”. Over these 20 years she HAS gained understanding of the township government and how to manipulate the budget to grow her Miscellaneous Line Item slush fund.
Her 2012 campaign contributions totaled $5740. A majority of which came from attorneys, McKenna and Associates, EQ VBTs hazardous waste facility that is now accepting high level radioactive fracking waste,
Some of her poor decisions were:
Approve a contract for Blended Rate Police Officers, which skims the budget in overtime for the chosen.
Signing the Visteon Bond agreement which could cost the residents millions. She knew the risk was there. Visteon had not showed a profit of $5 yet we gave them a morgage on our future
Approved tax abatements for manufacturing that put the burden on the taxpayers to provide Public Safety for these businesses, deep cuts or elimination of School Taxes and eliminating Township operating cost.
When asked about why the township allows our salaried Fire Chief to have another part-time daytime job teaching at Schoolcraft College, Mrs. Budd stated it was prestigious for the township and shows he runs a tight ship. Tight ship indeed, the township hired two additional personnel to cover for him while he’s MIA and not available to respond as his contract requires.
Recently she approved the failed 6.5 millage ballot for residents. The Visteon 3 cannot figure out how to get out of a jam without putting their hands out to the residents.
The township has a chance for a change. Elect Harry Roesch for Treasurer
Sherry, stick to something you know how to do, which is growing Corn. No longer will you be able to use the Township Check book like it belongs to you personally. Handing out jobs to Family mdmbers(No bid contracts). Giving business to Car dealer in the area with out using best practices. Searching out Companies to give business to with out doing due diligence. Now with Your assistance Sharry the Township is in debt by Millions of dollars. You are a Bully with Child like mentality. Slamming doors within the Township when you don’t get your way. You have zero Leadership qualities. You’re excellent skills when it comes to selling and growing Corn, try sticking to that. Please retire before you get embarrassed. You no longer have the juice!! Beat it!!!
Bullybud has had too much power for too many years. She thrives on the control, power and manipulation. I’ve also heard the same story about her slamming doors at township hall. She should have retired many years ago. Diane Madigan listed the bully’s failures and you can also add the failure to respect the residents by working alongside her fellow board members in an adult fashion. She does not run for office in order to serve for the betterment of our township; to the contrary she runs so that she can manipulate and control.
My buddy works for the township and he has told me about some scenarios where Budd has lied to employees and residents to protect the current and a former director of police and fire. Good people have left the community because of this good old boy system that we have. If van buren has any chance of survival it will be with competent people with experience and education.
Well competency we don’t have. Your buddy is right. Sharry has a track record of hiding corruption and finally has been leaked. The last thing she wants is her family name tarnished. She has had long enough in office. Please tell me 3 things she has done to make a difference for the community? I don’t mean her cohorts in public safety either. We all know what she hides for them.
The Township will not be viable until the likes of Scary Sharry retire. Their needs to be a Forencic audit done on the Township accounts, before the Current Board members get loss. I believe their was some Shanagans going on with that Visteon Deal. Folks were making money in this Township( no bid contract). No one should have to work with a Un Cooperative Individual.
For many years decisions at the township have been based upon who bullybud likes and doesn’t like. She’s a member of the cancerous clique and also a member of the Visteon 3. She serves on the Planning Commission but this too is becoming a “clique” because the appointments are made based upon who she likes which is why we lost Mr. Johnson as a member of this commission. His value as a member to the Planning Commission was above reproach but that doesn’t matter that he served his community so well. He was not reappointed based on political machinery.
Carl Johnson, PHD, worked hard and performed an admirable duty serving on the Planning Commission. Sad he was not re-appointed. Van Buren politics.
I agree 100% because Budd was the one who talked Combs into hiring Besson as the Fire chief without an interview or testing. Remember, he was not hired his past 2 attempts at that open position when it came down to the interview process. Same goes for Laurain. He did not have to go through a formal interview process and in fact they loosened the qualifications for him so that he could take on the job without an education.
This is not the kind of leadership we need for the township.
The busiest time for bud was when she was working so hard from her office at township hall organizing, recruiting and basically running the recall. This is how she serves the residents. This is how she earned her nearly $100,000. annual salary.
Why is there so much hate for a lady that has served this many years for this township? No one is perfect and we all have made mistakes in the past. She means well and I don’t think she is a bully like the other people are saying. We need someone who knows this township and how it works. We have new businesses coming in and we can only thank Mrs. Budd and our past board for that. I think she will do great along with Kevin McNamara. From what I understand is the senior police officers and employees in the township would like this pairing also. We need to make sure this happens because they are the heart and soul of our community.
We are done with Budd. You can’t say “mistakes were made” when they are deliberate and planned. She has orchistrated too many shady deals to just wash them over as a mistake. I’m sure she does have good intentions, but that’s no excuse for bending the law to meet your needs. We need to get her out before she sinks her hooks in the new businesses coming into town and drives them away.
No, what needs to happen is the board come up with a plan on the Visteon deficit. They are banking on winning a litigation that will most likely not go their way. These board members are so Podunk that they were bamboozled when these extremely smart business people made sure in their agreement that visteon would be in the clear in case of bankruptcy.
This is why we need people with business acumen. They rely so much on these attorneys. Get out of van buren if you can. By 2019 we will rely on Wayne for police service and HVA for medical services.
@Christina
An endorsement from the high ranking police officers in the township is probably not a good thing in my opinion. It will probably take some votes away from her. Rightfully so. I think she is undeserving of another bid because of the reasons already pointed out above. Shady business practices and she states she has pristine audits. I wonder if that would be the case if an IPA appointed by the state were to come in and do an audit. If you look back in the news you would see Augusta Township also had passed audits. That board embezzled over a million in township funds.
I agree with Christina that the current treasurer has served for many years and we do owe her a thank you for that. Also she served many years on the Planning Commission. There are many residents that know this township well enough to be treasurer. We just seem to need someone with a little more vision and less political maneuvers. She has earned my respect for all the years served but she has not earned my vote.
No thanks to crooks, forensic audit sounds good to me. Looks like the minions are busy with news papers articles to distract the public. Not going to work this time. Busy trying to play the race card again in order to whip up the good ole boys. Time out for the bull shit! The current Treasurer has gotten paid to sit on her fat ass and get the good tax paying citizens in debt in the tune of millions. No thank you Christina, don’t like her that much!!!
It’s time to rotate the crops! Vote Harry Roesch for VBT Treasurer.
