Tylan Jamel Johnson, 17, a former student at Belleville High School, was bound over to circuit court for trial after waiving his preliminary exam before 34th District Court Chief Judge Tina Brooks Green on April 13.
Belleville Police Cpl. Kris Faull said Johnson was a student on Nov 8 when he and a 14-year-old female student were discovered by a school staff member in a compromising position at the school.
He was charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct-3rd degree, which involves a person aged 13 through 15. His public defender was David Langford. He is out on $50,000 personal recognizance bond.
Cpl. Faull advised Judge Green that Johnson needed to come into the Belleville Police Department to be fingerprinted and Judge Green told Johnson to make arrangements to do that.
Johnson, who lived in the Belleville area, was expelled from BHS and the female, who lived in Ypsilanti, left school on her own, Cpl. Faull said.
When asked why it took so long for Johnson to be charged, Cpl. Faull said it was because the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office took so long to act on the warrant request.
Johnson was ordered to be at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice on April 27 for an arraignment on the information.
