Mail Center One at 847 Sumpter Road in Belleville has reopened after clean up of a mercury spill that occurred Jan. 18.
Arch Environmental Group, a Hazmat company hired by Mail Center One owner John Ware, performed the clean up and has deemed the facility safe for customers.
“Our customer’s safety is of utmost importance to us, “Ware said in a news release. “Their welfare is not something we take lightly.”
The State of Michigan has reviewed the laboratory results provided by Arch that show the center to be mercury free, said Christina Bush in a letter to Ware and his wife Aminata, co-owner of the business.
Bush is toxicologist of the Toxicology and Response Section Division of Environmental Health for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
“We look forward to seeing our dedicated customers,” said Ware. “We are very much a part of this community and our promise to continue serving here is unwavering.
