Van Buren Township Police have identified the motorcyclist who died in a Sept. 11 accident on Rawsonville Road as Jeffery Jordan, 42, of Ypsilanti Township.
After releasing the name, VBT Police Captain Gregory Laurain said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the accident at this time and the accident is still under investigation.
Jordan’s motorcycle crashed into the back end of a tractor-trailer that had broken down in the northbound lane of Rawsonville Road, north of West Huron River Drive just before 1:35 p.m. that day.
Captain Laurain said after the tractor-trailer broke down, the driver had placed warning triangles out behind his rig and was in the process of making a cell phone call for road assistance when a motorcycle traveling northbound crashed into the rear of the trailer.
The motorcyclist locked up his brakes just before making contact, Captain Laurain said.
Jordan was transported in critical condition to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor where he died from his injuries, Captain Laurain said.
The name of the deceased was withheld until Sept. 17 pending notification of the family. There were no injuries reported to the operator of the tractor-trailer.
