The Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Wayne Metro Chapter Area 27, donated $200 to the Toys for Tots Christmas charity this week.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.
Area 27 MARSP Director Lois Mida Zilka, formerly of Belleville and now of Canton, said the vote to donate was taken at the group’s recent meeting. This is the second year the group has donated to Toys for Tots.
Zilka delivered the check to the Belleville-Area Independent office, one of the drop-off locations for Toys for Tots.
Zilka said Area 27, with about 2,000 members, is one of four MARSP areas in Wayne County. Larry McConnell is Assistant Area 27 Director.
Area 27 is made up of 13 school districts: Crestwood, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights #7, Garden City, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Huron, Inkster, Romulus, Van Buren, Wayne County R.E.S.A., Wayne-Westland, and Westwood.
