A school bus taking students back to Belleville High School from the William D. Ford Career-Technical Center in Westland collided with a vehicle driven by a young female who reportedly ran a stop sign.
There were accusations that the young woman was texting on her cell phone at the time of the accident, but that could not be substantiated, said Van Buren Township Police Lt. Ken Floro.
The accident occurred about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the corner of Hannan and Tyler roads.
Lt. Floro said the woman driver did receive a citation for being at fault in the accident.
Pam Johnson, executive assistant to Van Buren Public Schools Supt. Michael Van Tassel, said minor injuries were reported and one person complained of being lightheaded and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Lt. Floro said the driver of the school bus stated that she suffered neck and back pain as a result of the accident and may have gone to the doctor or hospital on her own after she left the scene.
On school days two buses take students to the Ford Center, with each one carrying about 25 students, Johnson said.
The car sustained heavy damage to its front end. The bus was damaged on the passenger side and door, as well as on the front.
