On April 23, the Belleville Rotary Club honored member Don Juchartz for his 50 years of service to the Belleville Club and Rotary International.
It was noted that Juchartz, 84, enthusiastically followed the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
Juchartz, an area resident since 1956 and Sumpter Township resident since 1971, has held every office in the club and led an international group study exchange to Austria.
He has led or participated on countless committees at the local, district and international level and was one of the chief movers in the creation and support of the club’s Charles B. Cozadd Foundation which has benefited the tri-community for more than 40 years.
An internationally recognized horticulturist, Juchartz still hosts his weekly phone-in “Garden Doctor” radio show, as he has for 61 years – surely a record run.
The gathering on April 23 included tributes from distinguished Rotarians and Past District Governors from throughout the district as well as notable officials at the local, county and state levels.
A state Resolution signed by Gov. Rick Snyder, Senator Patrick Colbeck and State Rep. Bill LaVoy, 17th District, was also presented to hom.
Belleville Rotary Club President, David Parrott noted that Juchartz is known as “Mr. Rotary” in the club and community at large.
In his remarks, Juchartz indicated that he was honored by the recognition and felt privileged to have been able to participate in and serve Rotary for these past 50 years.
Juchartz specifically thanked his family for their support and patience. He then recounted examples of advice received from a number of individuals, which he, in turn, had applied to the conduct of his endeavors in Rotary, horticulture, and personal life.
The evening concluded with friends, family and professional associates reconnecting and reminiscing.
