Human Resources Director John Leroy introduced Jill Marvaso atthe Sept. 22 meeting of the Van Buren Public Schools Board of Education. As of Oct. 1, she will be the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.
Marvaso fills the vacancy left by Jeff Moore, who resigned. Leroy said dozens of people applied for the position and then it was whittled down to 42 and then to one.
Leroy said Marvaso brings more than 20 years of experience in education, beginning her career as an elementary teacher in Dearborn before serving as an instructional coach, assistant principal, and most recently, principal at Kinloch Elementary in the Crestwood School District.
He said throughout her career, she has focused on improving student achievement, supporting teachers, and building strong school communities.
She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a K-12 School Administrator Certificate.
She attended the Sept. 22 meeting with her husband and two of her three children. Her son had to attend a soccer game, she said.
