The seats were hard and the rain was falling in torrents outside, but the families of the 30 performers on stage didn’t mind a bit.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre put on two shows Saturday afternoon and the applause was regular and heartfelt.
All those animal costumes worn by the actors in “The Jungle Book” musical had come in a covered pickup truck from Missoula, Montana, along with the settings for the jungle scenes.
The truck was driven by tour actor/directors C. Alex Webster and Pablo Fullbrook.
Belleville Area Council for the Arts member Barbara Rogalle Miller learned that the directors had heard about the Detroit Institute of Arts but had never been there, so while they were in town she took them to Detroit. The DIA provided a docent to give them a proper tour.
The local actors were from grades K-12, so needless to say some forgot their lines and had to be helped along. But, they got back on track. There was a lot of singing and children marching along in animal outfits, much to the delight of the audience.
One little girl was quite a ham and took to throwing kisses to the audience with wide sweeping arm movements.
Thank you all for bringing our children to the stage to make them stars. It was fun for everyone involved.
