At a 16-minute meeting on Aug. 22, with a bare quorum, the Van Buren Public Schools Board of Education paid its bills and hired new staff members.
Instructional employees hired were:
• David Turner, promotion to assistant principal, McBride Middle School;
• Susan Moore, counselor, BHS;
• Colleen Kalisieski, resource room teacher, BHS;
• Yolanda Curtis, CI teacher, BHS;
• Angela Given, resource room teacher, Owen/Edgemont;
• Andrew Tucker, Spanish teacher, BHS;
• Bradley Aaron, math teacher, BHS; and
• Zachary Bongiorno, teacher-4th, Tyler.
The board also accepted the retirements of teachers Joanne Grant of Rawsonville after 24 years of service and Sandra Burch of Tyler after 22 years; and the resignations of Kathleen Klotz of McBride and Kristina Brashear of Rawsonville after no years of service.
The board accepted the resignations of non-instructional staff members Sara Pittman of Food Service and Bobby Lindsey of Transportation.
Non-instructional employees hired were:
• Gregory Martinez, mechanic, Buildings & Grounds;
• Doris Goodson, sub-worker, Food Service;
• Carrie Haverlock and Amy Marton, bus drivers, Transportation;
• LaTrena Plovie, payroll coordinator, Administration; and
• Erica Schimmel, paraprofessional, Special Services.
Absent from the meeting were board president Amy Pearce, board secretary Darlene Gerick, and trustee Dionne Falconer.
