The memorial to mark the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack on America begins at 9 a.m. at Grace Lake Corporate Center in Van Buren Township.
The memorial will include prayer vigils and bell ringing to honor of the victims of the 9/11 attacks along with first responders and COVID heroes.
Father John Kiselica of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Belleville and Pastor Dave Bielec of Southport Community Church will be presenters.
The memorial opens at 9 a.m. and will mark:
• 9:37 a.m., Flight 77 strikes the Pentagon;
• 9:59 a.m., South Tower collapses;
• 10:03 a.m., Flight 93 downed in Pennsylvania; and
• 10:20 a.m., North Tower collapses.
Members of 14 local mutual aid teams are schedule to be honored.
A car show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $15. A trophy award ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. There will be dash plaques for the first 150 entries.
Grace Lake Corporate Center is located east of I-275 between Tyler and Ecorse roads, with entries from both roads, along with an entry on Hannan Road.
