Recently it was stated on Facebook that the shopping center where Kmart formerly was located is being torn down. Dunham’s sign announces the closing of its store on the first weekend in May.
Van Buren Township Director of Planning and Economic Development Dan Power said on April 26 no permits have been applied for for any demolition or tear-down work and there are no development / planning applications in for the site at this time.
The site is currently zoned C-1 – General Business and this current zoning guides what land uses would be permitted under an approved site plan or new business application should VBT receive one, he said.
The site is also currently master-planned for a mixed-use future land use according to the 2020 Master Plan.
“We are checking for updates on the longer-term development plans, but do not have any updates at this time,” Director Power said.

This plaza would make the perfect place for a kroger store. The kmart is plenty big enough for a large scale kroger, and the dunham’s used to be a pak n save grocery store back in the day (and long before that an A & P). Would be nice to see grocery come back to the rawsonville area.
Would be great place for a movie theater
I remember Dunham’s used to be the Chatham’s supermarket in the 70’s. It will be interesting to see what replaces it.
This area has tons of stores and fast food, turn it back to nature maybe a memorial..
Have a movie theater or a store related to Kmart chipotle bw3 since. Most of the stores are closed with little Caesars only being there.
How about a hotel since the next location is Belleville road too far to drive the rent is getting higher. At that location
