Darryl “Lon” Hartmann of Belleville is among the six students to earn Applebaum Fellows Scholarships at DIME Detroit.
Others are Delayne Morgan Natke of Livonia; and Frederick Botten, Frances “Frankie” Peterson, Nygee Reed, and Devin Woodson, all of Detroit.
The six have been selected to hone their entrepreneurial and leadership aspirations and reduce their student debt thanks to a new initiative launched by the Applebaum Family Philanthropy and DIME Detroit (group powered by Detroit Institute of Music Education).
The Applebaum Fellows Scholarship Program at DIME Detroit will provide financial support to six Detroit-area students annually who will be mentored by experts in the business, community service and the music industry.
“The goals,” said Lisa Applebaum of Applebaum Family Philanthropy, “is to give these highly-motivated students additional education and experiences that will lead to the greatest creative and employment success possible.”
Hartmann of Belleville is already at the helm of his own artist management company. This Music Industry Studies senior is poised to graduate and hit the ground running.
“Lon,” as he prefers to be called, describes entrepreneurs as the “fearless daredevils of the world.” His hope is to focus on the opportunities provided by the Applebaum Fellowship to further develop his own business, hone his leadership skills and to ultimately provide a space for local talent to record and produce quality “tracks that will live on in the stories of our lives for generations.”
DIME Detroit was founded in 2014 and recently was named as one of Billboard Magazine’s Top Music Business Schools 2019. It is a music institute dedicated to teaching the next generation of modern musicians and entrepreneurs.
More than two-thirds of DIME Detroit students receive some form of financial aid and many graduated from high school with a GPA lower than 2.4.
