Howitzer arrives at VFW Post on Aug. 24

A 105mm Howitzer was delivered to the Belleville Veterans of Foreign Wars #4434 / Polish Legion of American Veterans #167 post hall at 44170 Bemis Rd. in Van Buren Township on Saturday morning, Aug. 24. It had to be moved through the fence, which had to be taken apart and put together again so they wouldn’t have to drive over the septic field. At this point Saturday, the Howitzer had yet to be secured to the cement slab by drilling and chains to keep it in place. The Howitzer will be dedicated during the post’s 75th anniversary celebration at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. Special guest will be Digger O’Dell, the last living POW in Michigan.
