The public is invited to take part in a Beam-Signing Ceremony at the Belleville Area District Library construction site at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26.
“Be a part of your library’s history,” said library board president Sharon Peters.
The steel beams for the new library are being erected next to the current library. The public is invited to tour the construction site and sign one of the steel columns near the new entrance.
Peters said those participating will have to put on hard hats before stepping into the construction zone and will have to use a special pen for the signing.
She told the Van Buren Township Board of Trustees at its Jan. 15 meeting that at first they were just going to have officials from the tri communities sign the beams, but then decided to invite everyone because it’s the people’s building.
The annual meeting of the Friends of the Belleville Area District Library will be held following the ceremonial signing. The meeting is set for 12:30 p.m. at the library, starting with a free lunch. The public is invited to this meeting, as well, which includes an update on the library project by Dean Kokkales from O’Neal Construction.
The library is at 167 Fourth St. in downtown Belleville. For more information, call (734) 699-3291.
