From 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, the Belleville Women of the Moose 1135 will serve a spaghetti dinner to honor those who have served and are serving in the U.S. military and to earn money for a worthy cause.
The event is open to the public for $10 a plate, at the door, but veterans and active service men and women get to eat free.
Tina Watts, chairperson of the special event, said the proceeds from the meal will be used to help repair the Veterans Memorial in the City of Belleville.
She said Nancy Summers has made a quilt, which will be raffled off, and there will be a Chinese raffle for gifts that have been donated by stores and crafters, to help raise funds.
The Women of the Moose have a thing about supporting veterans and they do so with gusto. Elsewhere in today’s paper you will find a story about them adopting soldiers in Iraq and sending them packages. Their Christmas box was sent out last week. When we asked Tina Watts, whose son is one of the soldiers receiving the boxes, if she doesn’t worry about him and, of course, she does. She said she watches the news about what’s going on in Iraq and hopes she sees him, or hopes she doesn’t. But, he’s serving his country and she’s proud.
We applaud the Women of the Moose for showing they care about those serving and the veterans. God bless the Women of the Moose.
