The Sumpter Township Police Department sent out a Nixel alert on Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, saying a report on social media of an active shooter in the township is not true.
The alert said: “Contrary to earlier claims on social media, an active shooter situation DOES NOT and DID NOT occur at a business on Rawsonville Road south of Bemis. The Sumpter Township Police Department did, however, receive a report of male armed with a shotgun walking with a dog down the railroad tracks in that area. We were unable to locate the individual although all indications and statements from the witness point to the individual being a hunter, as this time of the year is open season on certain small game and waterfowl.”
