A two-vehicle crash injured three people in what appeared to be a head-on collision on Bemis Road between Haggerty and Martinsville roads at about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Van Buren Township Police Captain Gregory Laurain said the driver of one vehicle, a 51-year-old VBT man, went left of center and struck an oncoming vehicle occupied by two people – a 33-year-old female from Willis and a 28-year-old male from Sumpter Township who both were in serious condition at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was in critical condition. All were transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by HVA.
On Friday, Captain Laurain said it was unknown if alcohol or drugs was a factor as of yet.
VBT Fire Chief Dan Besson said the fire department was dispatched at 6:31 a.m. and arrived at 6:36, clearing the scene at 9:21 a.m.
Chief Besson said fire fighters blocked traffic and supported the accident investigation. He said fire fighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate one patient from each vehicle.
