Sumpter Township Police Department sent out a Nixle alert on April 1 alerting residents to take immediate steps to properly secure and protect their residences and outbuildings because of a recent rash of breaking and enterings.
The instructions were to lock doors and set alarms, if present, and call police immediately if observing anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
The alert said Sumpter police have investigated several B&E’s over the previous few days. These incidents occurred both during daylight and overnight hours and all have occurred on the west side of the township, in the 20000 block of Karr Road, the 21000 block of Sherwood Road, and the 49000 block of Wear Road.
