Rest area 912 off I-275 in Canton Township is reopening at 2 p.m. today after repair and the installation of enhanced security measures, including the parking lots after repairs to the buildings and grounds from earlier vandalism.
There will be increased police presence at the rest area following the reopening to prevent future vandalism.
The rest stop is on northbound I-275 between US-12 (Michigan Avenue) and M-153 (Ford Road).
In February, the Michigan Department of Transportation was forced to close this rest area due to vandalism.
Michigan currently operates 78 rest areas statewide (14 of which are also Welcome Centers), including the Canton Township Rest Area, which was built in 1977.
