Rain or shine, the Friends of the Library will be holding their annual Perennial Plant Swap on Saturday, May 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Belleville Area District Library Courtyard on the corner of Fourth and Charles streets.
Adults and children are invited to bring perennials to swap. Plants should be in containers and labeled. Garden-related door prizes from local nurseries will be given away.
Members of the Belleville Area Garden Club will be on hand to answer questions on gardening maintenance and composting techniques. For questions regarding the plant swap, call Kathy Kulwicki at (734) 740-1408.
The spring used book sale will be open to the public on May 4, from noon to 3 p.m. in the program room of the library. Adult sale prices include: hardcovers 3 for $1, trade paperbacks 4 for $1, mass-market paperbacks 6 for $1, DVDs and CDs 2 for $1. Children’s Books will be: hard covers 6 for $1, and paperbacks 8 for $1. There will be a table of special-priced books as marked.

If you are spring cleaning, donate your used books to the library. Books should be in good condition. Proceeds from used-book sales help support children, teen, and adult summer reading programs.
The Friends of the Library will also be sponsoring a program, “The Influenza Pandemic of 1918,” on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. The greatest pandemic in modern history killed about 50 million people worldwide. Keith Bruder, local history buff, will talk about the effects this history-making disease had on the local area and around the world.
