Karin LaMothe, executive assistant to Van Buren Township Supervisor Linda Combs, has resigned – again.
“I submitted my resignation on Oct. 13. In accordance with my contract, I am required to provide 30 days’ notice, so my last day will be Nov. 13,” LaMothe told the Independent on Monday.
“It has been an honor to work with Supervisor Combs and the Township’s many dedicated employees,” she said.
“Given significantly more tasks since the retirement of the Deputy Clerk in June 2014, I was unable to maintain my first three priorities to God, my family and my health; God instructed me to “step out of the boat.”
“I have submitted a letter of interest for the DDA [VBT Downtown Development Authority deputy] position; however, first and foremost, it is important for me to obey God’s calling and to have faith in His plan for my family and me,” LaMothe said.
DDA Executive Director Susan Ireland is in the final stages of selecting an assistant. In June, Combs gave up LaMothe for 16 hours a week to assistant Ireland and that assignment continues.
A year ago, LaMothe also resigned as assistant to Combs, but a few weeks later decided to stay on. At the time Supervisor Combs said she “begged” LaMothe to continue.
LaMothe was hired by Supervisor Combs as her executive assistant in January 2013, promoted to deputy supervisor in June 2013, and demoted to executive assistant in August 2013 after the board disputed the deputy position. VBT had never had a deputy supervisor prior to those two months in 2013.
LaMothe’s last resignation was to be effective Oct. 18, 2013.
