The two proposals on the Aug. 5 Primary Election Ballot for the Belleville Area District Library were defeated by about 62% for each question.
The total numbers cast by voters for the library proposals in the Tri-Community were:
• Construction Bond Proposal to levy 1.08 mills in 2014, then 0.96 annually for 20 years to raise $19,050,000:
Yes – 2,487 – 38%
No – 4,032 – 62%
• Operating Millage Proposal to levy 1 mill for 20 years:
Yes – 2,617 – 38%
No – 4,230 – 62%
Sumpter Township voters cast 325 yes votes (21.7%) and 1,172 no votes (78.2%) on the construction bond proposal and 344 yes votes (22.9%) and 1,211 no votes (80.8%) for the operating millage.
City of Belleville voters cast 210 yes votes (29.91%) and 492 no votes (70.09%) for the construction bond proposal and 228 yes votes (30.4%) and 521 no votes (69.56%) on the operational millage.
Van Buren Township voters cast 1,952 yes votes (45.19%) and 2,368 no votes (54.81%) for the construction bond and 2,045 yes votes (45.01%) and 2,498 no votes (54.99%) on the operational millage.
Wayne RESA Regional
Enhancement Millage
The Wayne RESA Regional Enhancement Millage of 2 mills for six years failed with 97,492 yes votes (49%) and 100,534 no votes (51%).
Locally, the breakdown was:
• Sumpter Township – 232 yes (20.8%); 881 no (79.1%)
• City of Belleville – 214 yes (31.99%); 455 no (68.01%)
• Van Buren Township – 1,558 yes (38.53%); 2,486 no (61.47%)
State 14-1 Proposal
The proposal to eliminate the state use tax and replace with local share passed statewide 863,953 yes votes (69%) to 382,407 no votes (31%).
Locally, the breakdown was:
• Sumpter Township – 809 yes (55.2%); 654 no (44.7%)
• City of Belleville – 433 yes (62.39%); 261 no (37.61%)
• Van Buren Township – 2,624 yes (61.28%); 1,658 no (38.72%)
34th District Court Judge
The total votes in the five communities that make up the 34th District Court for the incumbent judge position were:
• David M. Parrott, incumbent – 5,405 (60%)
• Lisa Martin – 2,795 (31%)
• Charles Septowski – 793 (9%)
Judge Parrott and Martin will face off for the six-year position in the Nov. 4 General Election.
Votes in the local precincts were:
• Sumpter – Parrott, 816; Martin, 231; Septowski, 115
• City of Belleville – Parrott, 413; Martin, 132; Septowski, 34
• Van Buren Township – Parrott, 2,117; Martin, 1,121; Septowski, 271
County Commissioner, 11th Dist.
Voters in the 11th Wayne County Commission District chose A. Haidous to be the Democratic candidate for the position in the Nov. 4 election, to fill the vacancy left by Kevin McNamara.

• William J. Collop – 1,347 (17%)

Wayne County Executive
Warren Evans was the top Democratic candidate for Wayne County Executive in the Aug. 5 primary and he will face off with the top Republican vote-getter John Dalton on Nov. 4.

State Rep., District 21
Kristy Pagan won the race to be the Democratic candidate in the Nov. 4 election. The overall vote was:
• Kristy Pagan, 3,003 – 45%
• Natalie Mosher, 2,731 – 41%
• Cornell Mathis, 1,005 – 15%
In the City of Belleville, the numbers were:
• Kristy Pagan, 164 – 40%
• Natalie Mosher, 160 – 39.80%
• Cornell Mathis, 75 – 18.66%
In Van Buren Township, the numbers were:
• Kristy Pagan, 777 – 37.27%
• Natalie Mosher, 761 – 36.50%
• Cornell Mathis, 534 – 25.61%
Carol Ann Fausone is unopposed as the Republican candidate for 21st State House District. In the primary election, she earned 178 votes in Belleville, 383 in Sumpter, and 797 in Van Buren Township.
State Rep., District 12
Part of District 12 runs through Van Buren Township, including Haggerty Subdivision and Budd’s farm. Erika Geiss is the lone Democratic candidate seeking to replace her term-limited husband in the position. Geiss earned 372 votes in VBT. Kelly Thompson is the lone Republican candidate in the 12th District and she earned 149 votes in VBT.
State Rep., District 17
Incumbent Democratic State Rep. Bill Lavoy was unopposed in the primary election and got 669 votes in Sumpter Township.
Republican candidate Charles Londo also was unopposed in the 17th District and got 383 votes in Sumpter.
They will face each other on the Nov. 4 General Election ballot.
State Senator, 6th District
Hoon-Yung Hopgood is the lone Democratic candidate in the 6th Senate District. He got 322 votes in Belleville, 627 in Sumpter, and 1,972 in VBT.
His Republican opposition is Darrell McNeill, who got 177 votes in Belleville, 390 in Sumpter, and 955 in VBT.
Rep. in Congress, 12th District
Overall, Debbie Dingell won the right to move on to the Nov. 4 General Election to seek the seat being vacated by her husband. She got a total of 44,974 votes (78%) and her opponent Raymond Mullins earned 12,960 (22%).
Locally, Dingell got 319 votes in Belleville, with Mullins getting 112. In Sumpter, Dingell got 649 and Mullins 264. In VBT, Dingell got 2,081 and Mullins 666.
Unopposed Republican candidate Terry Bowman got 176 votes in Belleville, 404 in Sumpter, and 986 in VBT.
U.S. Senator
Unopposed Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Gary Peters got 382 votes in Belleville, 784 in Sumpter, and 2,482 in VBT.
Unopposed Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Terri Lynn Land earned 187 votes in Belleville, 427 in Sumpter, and 1,021 in VBT.
Governor
Unopposed Democratic candidate for Governor Mark Schauer earned 395 votes in Belleville, 895 in Sumpter, and 2,570 in VBT.
Unopposed incumbent Republican candidate for Governor Rick Snyder earned 190 votes in Belleville, 439 in Sumpter and 1,080 in VBT.
City of Belleville
In the Aug. 5 primary, there were 3,199 registered voters and 1,022 voters cast ballots, a turnout of 32% in Belleville. There were 290 absentee voters.
Sumpter Township
In Sumpter there were 7,411 registered voters and 2,814 cast their ballots, a turnout of 37.97%. There were 440 absentee voters.
Van Buren Township
In Van Buren Township there were 22,451 registered voters and 9,024 cast ballots, a turnout of 40%. There were 3,641 absentee voters.
