The Harvest Fest Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, and runs from Belleville High School to Five Points and up Main Street to the festival.
The parade is sponsored by the Belleville Central Business Community and will honor the 100th anniversaries of the Boy and Girl Scout organizations.
The Harvest Fest is on Fourth Street, that is closed on Saturday between Main and Charles streets – the area between the museum and the library.
At the library will be the petting farm and pony rides, Indian corn jewelry, soap carving and leaf rubbing, corn husk dolls, butter churning, leaf dipping and ink stamping.
At the museum, folks will learn rug beating, corn shelling, have a scavenger hunt, do laundry with a scrub board, make folded paper crafts, and take part in a Nickel Dig (between 2 and 3 p.m.). The museum also has the Scouting exhibit that has been in place all summer.
Joyous Noise will provide traditional music at the library and the museum, sponsored by the Belleville Downtown Development Authority.
There will be booths with food, baked items, caramel apples and other treats, along with sidewalk chalk drawing with Bob Mytych. The bake sale put on by the First United Methodist church will benefit the Community Food Closet.
Meanwhile, over at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Boy Scouts from Troop 793 will earn money for their activities with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. and a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m.
Also, the Scarecrows will be in place on Main Street, the entries in a contest sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation commission.
Drive 4 UR School
While all this is going on, the staff of Atchinson Ford will be at the back part of the Belleville High School parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to offer free test drives, with each drive earning a $20 donation to BHS from Ford Motor Co.
The project will earn up to $6,000 for the school. Atchinson Ford’s goal is 300 drivers.
