On Saturday, Oct. 15, Belleville is having a number of Booville events, but maybe the free trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts that day will lure you.
The DIA is providing a free bus trip on Oct. 15 from the Belleville Area Museum to the DIA and back again as part of its “County Day.” The “Matisse Bus” will depart the Belleville museum at 9:30 a.m. and will leave the DIA at 2 p.m. for the ride back to Belleville.
At the DIA, visitors can browse the collection and see the recently installed sculpture “Thalassa” by famed New York street artist Caledonia “Callie” Curry in the DIA’s Woodward Avenue lobby.
Visitors can take docent-led tours and take part in an art-making workshop. There are several places to eat the museum and you’ll pay for your lunch. Also, the museum shop carries items which cannot be found elsewhere.
Roundtrip transportation and admission are free, but you have to make a reservation. Call (313) 833-4005 or go to tickets.dia.org .
Other buses will be bringing visitors from River Rouge, Wyandotte, Detroit, Livonia, and Hamtramck.
If you are more into cute dogs in Halloween costumes on leashes competing for prizes, the Monster Mutt Walk begins at 1 p.m. on Fourth Street. Also, the Zombie Run is at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15, beginning at Horizon Park, the Otisville Cemetery Tour is at 3 p.m., and a dance at St. Anthony’s lasts until midnight. Lots to do. Take your pick.
