Kosa-Raju Babu-Rao, 80, of Canton waived two preliminary exams before 34th District Court Judge Tina Brooks Green on Jan. 22 and the defendant was bound over to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice for a Feb. 5 arraignment on the information.
He is charged with criminal sexual conduct/assault and criminal sexual conduct fourth degree (force or coercion) on Dec. 29 in Van Buren Township.
He also is charged with criminal sexual conduct fourth degree (force or coercion) on Aug. 1 in Van Buren Township.
He is free after posting bond of $5,000/10% on each of the two cases. As part of the bonds he was ordered to have no contact with two different females and to surrender his passport.
Babu-Rao’s retained defense attorney is William Hackett. Judge Green swore in a translator to assist the defendant in understanding the charges and what it means to waive the exam and be bound over to circuit court.
Also present was co-counsel James Anderson and Van Buren Township Detective Michael Long.
Jon Thomas Toth
Jon Thomas Toth, 27, of Belleville, waived his preliminary exam and Judge Green bound him over to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice for a Feb. 2 arraignment on the information.
Toth is charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one charge of aggravated indecent exposure on Dec. 9 in Van Buren Township. His retained attorney is Marcus Garske. He is free on personal recognizance bond of $10,000.
