Gjerdonte Shermon-Rafeal Williams, 19, and Gjervon Rodney Williams, 25, were co-defendants and Gjerdonte waived his preliminary exam on Nov. 27 before Chief 34th District Court Judge Tina Brooks Green and was bound over to circuit court for a Dec. 11 arraignment on the information.
Gjerdonte Williams was free on $5,000 personal bond. He is charged with first-degree home invasion, larceny from a building and interfering with a police investigation on Sept. 3 in Van Buren Township. His retained attorney is Brenda Williams.
On Dec. 11 at his arraignment on the information a plea was considered. A disposition conference was set for Jan. 6.
Gjervon Williams was free after posting $10,000/10% bond. He was charged with first-degree home invasion and larceny in a building on Sept. 3 in Van Buren Township, but at the district court session, the prosecutor asked that charges be dismissed against him and Judge Green dismissed the charges. His court-appointed attorney was Ricky Nelson.
Kayana Carmellkatie Thomas
Kayana Carmellkatie Thomas, 28, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault) on June 16 in Sumpter Township and was in custody at the Wayne County Jail on bond of $10,000/10%. Judge Green noted Thomas had been found competent.
Thomas’ mother had been waiting in the courtroom for three hours for her daughter’s case to be called, hoping to be able to take her home. She finally was told that Mr. Parker of Neighborhood Defender Services has yet to talk to the Prosecutor and the exam would be reset for the next week, Dec. 4.
On Dec. 4, the charge against Thomas was dismissed without prejudice by the Prosecutor, which means it could be refiled in the future. The prosecutor explained the complaining witness was not willing to prosecute and so the prosecution could not proceed.
Thomas was free after posting bond for the Dec. 4 court session and the bond was returned.
